Power to the Prosumer
Category: Blog - August 10, 2007
There’s no doubt social media has dramatically transformed the PR landscape because of the way information is communicated, absorbed, shared with others and contributed to, then re-told – sometimes over and over.
Traditional mass communications such as the two-way communications model and the agenda-setting theory are being pushed to the wayside, or shall I say supplemented, by consumer-generated media. And traditional mass media aren’t necessarily setting the agenda anymore. Because of public input, we’re moving more multi-directionally than ever before.
I wrote a similar post in July 2007 as a guest blogger for MN PRSA Blogspot. Check it out to watch one of the latest videos on the media revolution circulating YouTube. You’ll quickly see how we, the public, are the “prosumers” (say what?) facilitating this dynamic change in information-sharing. And with that change comes exciting opportunities to share expertise, stories and experiences.
