ESPN Gets Checked By Bloggers

Category: Blog - August 15, 2007

In following the dialogue surrounding mainstream media (MSM) and social media, it’s been interesting to see how differently industries respond to the two media and learn firsthand what works and what doesn’t. Back in July I wrote on sports and club teams’ attempts to engage bloggers and the struggle communications professionals face in trying to satisfy MSM and bloggers alike – all while advancing their marketing efforts.

And while the discussions on blog engagement and the way news is told are interesting (including the related First Amendment issues), what I’ve found amusing lately is the issue of credibility – who’s got more? We see this question raised in an ESPN Radio interview between ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt and blogger Will Leitch of leading sports blog Deadspin. Leitch tells the leading TV sports authority, ESPN, how it can get back its respect from sports bloggers. Listen in.
