Rosie Back in 'da House?

I thought he did pretty well. You? My breath was actually baited before he started the speech. Never before have I been so emotionally engaged in an election, or in government for that matter. I now get butterflies in my stomach thinking about issues to which I've never paid much attention. Everything from pre-inauguration speech jitters to how the next four years will be for the Nation and my family and friends. It is simply quite overwhelming to be an American right now. Jon Meacham, in his Newsweek article about the new, changing nation that Obama has to lead, Who We Are Now , sums up the historical significance well:
"...this much is clear and certain: the nation over which Obama will preside is changing, rapidly, and history is likely to connect his political rise to the shifting nature of a country that was largely one thing in the wake of World War II and through the Cold War and into the opening years of the 21st century, and quite another as the Obama era began."
Thinking about the Obama era's place in history is the fun part. The nerve-racking part is what needs to happen to get the country on track.Apparently, many Americans are not as worried as me. A recent USA Today/Gallup poll shows that 'Americans believe Obama will deliver.' The latest CBS/NYT poll found that a whopping 79 percent of Americans are optimistic about the next four years. Really? No person, no government can live up to those expectations.
The survey that I took most heart in was one that we just helped Ginger Consulting announce. A clear majority of Ginger's Alpha Panel Survey respondents felt that the country's situation is a character-building opportunity. They also acknowledged a need to personally sacrifice. I like that idea. In fact, I think it is time for all of our inner Rosie the Riveters to rear their 'do-rag'd heads. Off to roll up my sleeves now...
